Step 3 of 3
Prepare for the PCA
Prepare for the PCA
certification exam.
This guide covers the exam structure, what each section tests, and how to approach preparation so you go in ready.
What to expect
Exam structure
- True / False format - select True or False for each statement
- Guided section-by-section flow with back and next navigation
- Universal Precautions is separated into gloves and hand washing for clarity
- Each official section requires a score of 70% or higher to pass
- A full review appears after submission with corrections for missed items
- Questions are sourced directly from the Connecticut DSS PCA Certification Test
Preparation
How to get ready
- Complete modules in sequence. The topics build on each other — emergency response through personal care skills follow a logical order.
- Review all competency areas. The exam tests the full training scope, not a single topic. Broad preparation matters more than deep focus on one area.
- Use your agency’s support. If your organization provides guided readiness steps through the portal, use them before sitting the exam.
Certification areas
Exam focus sections.
The exam walks learners through one section at a time across the full PCA curriculum. Each official section requires a score of 70% or higher, and all official sections must be passed for overall certification.
